Aravind Medical Research Foundation

AMRF is a registered society, recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India to carry out research in ocular diseases. AMRF is closely associated with Aravind Eye Care System (AECS) and Aravind Eye Hospital (AEH) to conduct basic and translational research pertaining to eye diseases. This institute is equipped with excellent infrastructure for carrying basic as well as advanced research in the areas of Proteomics, Genetics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Immunology and Pharmacology. AMRF is a recognized center for Ph.D programme by Madurai Kamaraj University, Alagappa Universtity and Sastra University.

Proteomics based research was started in 2006 to understand the pathogenesis of various ocular diseases. Proteomics approaches are employed to study three important eye diseases, namely mycotic keratitis, diabetic retinopathy and primary open angle glaucoma. Recently, DBT has awarded a Programme support for research on human mycotic keratitis to understand the pathogenesis and to identify potential candidates that can be used as biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis leading to better and effective management of the disease.
