An overview:

Aravind Eye Care System has introduced an online application system for the Fellowship Programmes offered across its eight secondary and tertiary eye care centers in Madurai, Tirunelveli, Theni, Coimbatore, Pondicherry, Chennai, Salem and Tirupati
This online system has been developed for the fellowship Programmes;
  • Anterior Segment / Intraocular lens microsurgery
  • Cornea
  • Glaucoma
  • Retina Vitreous
  • Orbit and Oculoplasty
  • Paediatric Ophthalmology and strabismus
  • Uvea
  • Comprehensive ophthalmology
  • Surgical Paediatric Retina Fellowship (RoP)
  • Medical Retina

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be completed Postgraduate degree in Ophthalmology (MS or MD or DNB or Post DO DNB) to apply for all fellowship programmes
  • For Comprehensive Ophthalmology, candidates who have completed Diploma in Ophthalmology can be considered
  • For Surgical Paediatric Retina Fellowship (RoP) - candidates must complete Long term Fellowship in Retina – Vitreous.
  • The age limit of the applicant to apply for all the fellowships are upto 36 years
  • Only Indian candidates can apply for long term fellowships at Aravind Eye Care System

Guidelines to submit the application:

  • Applications have to be submitted only through the online system available on the Aravind website. Physical applications are not entertained
  • The applicant can choose his/her options with;
    • One fellowship either with one or two Aravind training centers
    • Two fellowships either with one or two Aravind training centers
  • Applicant cannot change his/her fellowship preferences through online once the form is submitted
  • Incomplete applications will be rejected
  • Application processing fee of Rs. 1000/- including 18% GST to be paid only through online using credit / Debit/ Net banking facility. Payment through other mode (Cash/Cheque /DD) will not be accepted
  • Submitted application will be further processed on receipt of the application fee
  • Application fee will not be refunded on any reason / under any circumstances
  • The applicant can reapply by using their existing login name and password. The acceptance or rejection of the reapplication request will be solely depends on the institution’s discretion.

Important Note:

  • All required documents are to be enclosed as a JPEG/png file. Size of each JPEG/Png file should be below 1 MB.
  • Please ensure that the following documents are ready before you start applying through online;
    • MBBS Mark statement
    • MBBS Degree certificate
    • MBBS Registration certificate
    • MS Degree certificate / provisional certificate
    • MS Mark statement (if available)
    • Long Term Retina Fellowship Certificate (required for Surgical Pediatric ROP Fellowship)
    • Aadhar card
  • Recent passport size photo with apron in JPEG/Png format below 1 MB (3.5 X 4.5) should be uploaded
  • Make sure the documents you upload are legible and straight
  • All mandatory fields (*) to be completed with valid information / data
  • Mandatory to give 2 references either from HOD of your MBBS or ophthalmology degree with their contact details.
  • While filling up the form, avoid using symbols and special characters like ' , " & @ # etc.
  • Do not copy and paste content from other sources or formats; type the details directly into the form
  • The applicant can complete the form in several sessions using the "save" function. It cannot be edited after submission

Application process:

  • The application status and related communications will be sent to the applicant only through the E-mail ID as given in the application form
  • Once the application form is submitted, the applicant will receive an acknowledgement mail with copy of application (in PDF format)
  • The Central Office reviews the application to check for the eligibility criteria and completion of information before processing it to the respective Aravind centers.
  • Option I will be processed first and further communication about application status or calling for interview will be sent to the applicant directly from respective Aravind centers
  • Based on the results of Option-I, option-II will be processed
  • Applicant cannot appear for interview at both preferred centers / fellowships at the same time
  • If the applicant is not selected for the given two options, the institute may contact the applicant by mail and suggest for any other opportunity within other Aravind centers
  • If the candidate fails to report on the scheduled date for interview / observation / entrance exams without any intimation, that application will be automatically rejected
  • The applicant who have not appeared for the interview due to valid reasons or rejected at the entrance examination or no vacancy at the time of application submission for option I and option II - can apply again. Application processing fee is applicable.

Selection Process:

  • Direct observation and interviews are mandatory as part of the selection process.
  • Entrance exams are applicable for some of the fellowship selection at Aravind
  • The respective HODs will communicate to the applicant about the exact dates, duration of observation / interview / entrance exams
  • After selection, if the candidate fails to report on the scheduled date, after getting the consent, that application will be rejected.
